No waste: together against food waste
We strive to prevent food waste. Our company processes all apples deemed too light for retail into high-quality raw materials for bakeries and dairies. From apple segments to applesauce, the whole apple is valued and processed at VS Apple Industries. In the fresh line, the apple is peeled and sliced, the peels and cores are then processed to make apple syrup, among other things. Thus, there are no residual streams and no food is wasted. Also good to know: we are SKAL-certified and supply our fresh products basically without added additives.
Recovery of energy and heat
To minimize our CO2 emissions and reduce dependence on fossil fuels, we invest in renewable energy and heat. We generate a third of the energy we need ourselves with solar panels. With 1,300 solar panels, we generate 512,000 kWh annually. Thus, we reduce our CO2 emissions by 236,000 kilograms, which is equivalent to the CO2 processing of 10,000 trees per year. The waste heat released from the cold rooms is used to heat the offices.
Water Treatment
Finally, our advanced water treatment system is an important part of our sustainable approach. Our aerobic water treatment allows us to reduce water consumption, recycle wastewater and use required water as efficiently as possible.
